Laos moves to foster digital transformation of government services

VIENTIANE, July 1 (Xinhua): The Lao Ministry of Education and Sports is looking to incorporate information and communication technology (ICT) in education departments nationwide over the period 2025-2035 to broaden the reach of the Lao government's digital transformation program.

The incorporation of digital government administration through one-stop public service delivery was an essential aspect of the country's development, according to the ministry's report on Monday.

Efficient and transparent public sector service delivery is important. This can be achieved by the digitalization of government administration, which is gradually being rolled out as various pieces of legislation are enacted.

In addition to the education sector, the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications has developed digital government administration systems using e-Office, e-mail, G-Chat, G-Share and G-Drive.

The Lao government is partnering with numerous countries in the development of digital technology and communications, to support the country's efforts to shake off its landlocked image and forge closer links with the rest of the world.

To accelerate the digitalization process, the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications has instituted Lao Digital Week to promote the development and use of innovative technologies.

The government has also urged officials working in the field of technology and communications to strengthen macro-management as part of efforts to resolve the country's economic and social problems through the use of digital technologies. Enditem
