Indonesia's foreign minister to visit Malaysia for bilateral talks

PUTRAJAYA: Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Retno L.P. Marsudi (pic), will undertake a working visit to Malaysia on Wednesday (July 3) to further strengthen the bond of friendship and longstanding ties of the two countries.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry in a statement Tuesday said during the visit, she will meet with Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to discuss the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in preparation for the 17th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) hosted by Indonesia this year.

Both ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Retno will also pay a courtesy call on Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, it added.

"As close neighbours and Asean member states, Malaysia-Indonesia relations are crucial not just bilaterally but also for regional peace, stability, and prosperity,” read the statement.

In 2023, Indonesia was Malaysia’s seventh-largest trading partner globally and third-largest among Asean member states, with total trade valued at US$24.39 billion (RM111.21 billion). - Bernama
