Myanmar protects over 1,000 endangered Burmese roofed turtles


YANGON: Myanmar has protected over 1,000 endangered Burmese roofed turtles (pic) across the country, the official newspaper Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Tuesday (July 2).

The Environmental Conservation Department and Upper Chindwin NGO are working together to conserve these turtles, the report said.

The turtles can be seen at Yadanabon Zoological Gardens, Yangon Zoological Gardens, and Lawkananda Wildlife Sanctuary, the report said.

These turtles, native to Myanmar, inhabit the Chindwin River near Linpha village in Hkamti township of Sagaing region, the report said.

These turtles can live between 60 and 100 years, with their ages determined by the stripes on their shells, it added. - Xinhua
