TOKYO: You can choose to be a mouse, and duck when Tokyo Disney Resort staff armed with barrels of water come at you with sprays when you visit this summer.

From a Baymax-themed float that sprays visitors with mist to Donald Duck-themed portable electric fans, Tokyo Disney Resort has launched its Get Soaked programme from July 2 to Sept 18 with average temperatures expected to soar between June and August.

Baymax’s Mission: Cool Down, a Baymax-themed float playing upbeat music, will travel along the Tokyo Disneyland parade route and spray visitors with mist, according to Tokyo Disney Resort’s website. Baymax is the care robot from the animated film Big Hero 6.

The resort also said it will deploy more water than usual to drench its visitors at three attractions – Toontown, Aquatopia and Splash Mountain – and dispatch theme park workers with water on their backs to cool visitors with mist.

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on Friday (July 5) issued heatstroke alerts for 21 prefectures as temperatures exceeding 35 deg C have been predicted in the eastern and western parts of the country due to a high-pressure system over the Pacific, the NHK reported.

Temperatures are expected to hit 36 deg C in central Tokyo and the cities of Fukushima, Fukui and Kyoto.

JMA warned in May that Japan may suffer a blistering summer in 2024 after its hottest summer on record in 2023, The Japan Times reported.

The agency added that average temperatures are expected to be high beginning June and rise again in August. - The Straits Times/ANN
