105kg of heroin blocks worth at least RM3.5mil seized in eastern Myanmar

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar's authorities have seized 105 kg 300 heroin blocks in the country's eastern state of Shan, the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) has reported.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotic police intercepted two vehicles in Tachilek Township of Shan State on Tuesday, and confiscated the heroin blocks from the vehicles, the CCDAC said in an official media release.

The seized narcotics had a street value of approximately 1.57 billion kyats (US$747,619 - RM3.5 billion), and three suspects were arrested in connection with the case, the CCDAC said.

Investigation showed that the narcotics were transported from Namsang of southern Shan State to Tachilek of eastern Shan State, it said.

The suspects were charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigation is underway, it added. - Xinhua
