Over 190,000 stimulant tablets seized in eastern Myanmar

YANGON: Myanmar police seized over 190,000 stimulant tablets in eastern Myanmar's Shan State, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Monday (July 16).

Acting on a tip-off, the joint anti-narcotic task force inspected a vehicle in Kengtung Township of Shan State on Sunday and confiscated 168,000 stimulant tablets which worth 67.2 million kyats (about US$32,000), it said.

Further investigations led to the seizure of another 3,000 stimulant tablets and 1kg of raw opium from a suspect's house in Kengtung.

On the same day, another 20,000 stimulant tablets were seized after a motorcycle was intercepted in the same township.

A total of six suspects linked to the drug cases have been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations were underway, the CCDAC said. - Xinhua
