MANILA: Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday (July 18) ruled out the possibility of accepting another cabinet position under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., adding she will focus on her job as the vice president.

“I will no longer serve in another cabinet post under the Marcos administration,” Duterte said in an ambush interview after the turnover ceremony at the headquarters of the Department of Education.

Duterte resigned as education secretary last June 19.

She handed over the DepEd’s seal and flag to Education Secretary Sonny Angara during the ceremony.

Duterte also said she will focus on the projects of the Office of the Vice President like providing medical and burial assistance as well as giving legal assistance to teachers.

"My time will no longer be divided by two offices," she added.

Duterte also reiterated that her “relationship with President Marcos is okay.”

The Vice President earlier said she would not be attending Marcos’ State of the Nation Address on July 22, and named herself a “designated survivor.”

Her remark drew criticisms from lawmakers, saying it was a thinly veiled threat.

Duterte has denied the accusations, saying her critics “missed the point.” - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
