SINGAPORE: A Hong Konger has been charged with drug trafficking for his alleged links to a case involving methamphetamine worth around S$500,000, found hidden inside two ornamental lion figurines.
Sze Hoi Shing, 25, was charged in a district court on July 18. He may face the death sentence if he is convicted of the offence.
According to court documents, Sze was outside the office of shipping company SF Express in Changi South Street 2 on July 16, shortly after 12.20pm, when he allegedly had four packets of a crystalline substance that weighed more than 4.15kg in total.
The substance is believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as Ice.
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said Sze was arrested that day after he deposited a package containing the figurines at an airfreight warehouse.
In an earlier statement, CNB said the arrest came after an exchange of intelligence with its counterpart in Hong Kong.
CNB states on its website that offenders convicted of trafficking, importing or exporting more than 250g of methamphetamine may face the death penalty.
Sze’s case has been adjourned to July 25. - The Straits Times/ANN
