Asean countries review progress of community-building efforts at top meeting in Vientiane

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): The seventh meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to Asean kicked off in Lao capital Vientiane to review the progress of Asean Community building efforts, external relations, and preparations for upcoming meetings.

Key topics of the meeting included the progress of Asean (Association of South-East Asian Nations) Community building, external relations and cooperation, and enhancements to the annual work plan of Asean Standing Committee representatives, the local Pasaxon newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The meeting on Monday also reviewed the implementation of the outcomes of the Asean Senior Officials' Meeting and related sessions held in Laos in June.

This meeting underscores the continuous commitment of Asean members to regional collaboration and the diligent pursuit of the Asean Community's goals, said the report.

Asean groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. - Xinhua
