Lao govt announces nationwide mourning for Vietnam’s Trong


VIENTIANE: The Lao government has announced nationwide mourning from July 25-26 for the Communist Party of Vietnam's general secretary Nguyen Phu Trọng who passed away on July 19 at the age of 80.

The Lao national flag will fly at half mast across the country and at Lao embassies and missions abroad, the Minister and Head of the Administration Office at the Prime Minister’s Office, Buakhong Nammavong (pic), told a media briefing.

Public entertainment activities will not be allowed during these two days of national mourning, which was announced following an agreement by the Party and the government.

The secretary general of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and state President, Thongloun Sisoulith, will lead a high-level Lao delegation to attend the official mourning and funeral ceremony of the Vietnamese leader in Hanoi. - Vientiane Times/ANN
