Social media influencer Aanvi Kamdar suffers fatal fall while filming reel near 300ft gorge

MUMBAI: Popular social media influencer Aanvi Kamdar, 27, fell to her death while filming a reel near the well-known Kumbhe Waterfall in Mangaon, Maharashtra, India on July 16, 2024.

Kamdar was a content creator and vlogger covering travel destinations, lifestyle, food and her personal video diaries.

The Mumbai-based vlogger went by @theglocaljournal on Instagram with over 323,000 followers, and was a chartered accountant who also previously worked for Deloitte as reported by Times of India.

According to police officials, the tragic incident happened on July 16 when Kamdar had gone on an outing with her friends to film content near the Kumbhe Waterfall in Mangaon.

Unfortunately, Kamdar had slipped on a hard and slippery patch of rocks on a hillock near the waterfall and fell around 300ft into the valley where she could not be spotted initially, as reported by Times of India.

Kamdar was with six other people who immediately contacted nearby rescue authorities who conducted a six-hour search before locating her body.

She was still alive when found, but succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead at Mangaon Taluka hospital in Maharashtra later on.

Six rescuers had to climb down to the gorge to retrieve Kamdar while 50 more were stationed at the top of the hillock for assistance during the rescue operation.

The Times of India also reported that although Kamdar was responsive when she was initially found, her injuries were too severe and she passed on while medical personnel were trying to save her on the way to the hospital.

Kumbhe Waterfall is a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors from all over the country, however during monsoon season, the area does get more dangerous with increased water flow.

Visitors are continuously advised to avoid areas with water bodies during India’s intense monsoon seasons.
