Two dead and five missing due to floods in Muong Pon

HANOI: Flash floods and flooding caused by prolonged heavy rains led to two deaths, two injured and left five people missing after wreaking havoc on Muong Pon Commune, Dien Bien District in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on Wednesday (July 24) night.

The floods injured two people and caused significant property damage.

About ten houses were swept away, eight houses collapsed and around 100 other houses were partly damaged. Many hectares of rice fields were completely destroyed.

The total estimated damage is VND2.7 billion (US$106,520).

Landslides and mud blocked roads caused traffic congestion on National Highway 12, passing through the Linh village area in Muong Pon Commune.

Authorities are still searching for the missing persons and addressing the flood damage. – Vietnam News/ANN
