VIENTIANE: Huaphan and Luang Prabang provinces plan to make it easier for tourists to visit the two adjoining provinces through a new flight to be provided by Lao Airlines.
An agreement on plans to link the neighbouring provinces’ tourism activities was signed in Luang Prabang province between a member of the Luang Prabang Tourism Association, Kongchakki Phanthasombath, and a representative of Alounmai Aviation Service Sole Co., Ltd., Khamphone Oun Anoungnouth, according to Lao National Radio.
To further bolster tourism, the two provincial authorities will jointly design and develop tour programmes and advertise their special attractions through online platforms, with a focus on local residents, hoping to inspire people living in the two provinces to explore the beauty and historical associations of their nearby environment.
The initiative supports the government’s efforts to encourage more people in Laos to participate in tourist activities and travel around the country.
The two provinces have numerous attractions and many opportunities for both enjoyment and education.
Huaphan province is located in the north-east of Laos and is renowned for its stunning waterfalls, including Sa Lery, Tadloun and Phavang, rice terraces, Tham Hang cave and the Hiem and Nam Meuang hot springs, the Hintang archaeological site, and the Nam Et-Phouleuy National Protected Area.
Huaphan is also home to Pha Thee Mountain and has a striking city pillar in the provincial capital.
Luang Prabang is one of the most well-known provinces in Laos and is a top tourist draw because of its riverside location, old temples, quaint streets and alleyways, colourful festivals, and scenic beauty.
Luang Prabang city’s old quarter was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1995 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), which determined that its architecture was culturally significant and worthy of protection by the United Nations.
Other popular attractions in and around the provincial capital include Phu Si stupa, Sae waterfall, Kuangxi waterfall, and the large night market in the town centre. - Vientiane Times/ANN
