Cambodia's famous Angkor Wat - seventh most tagged landmark on social media in the world, tops in South-East Asia region

PHNOM PENH: A new world survey says that Angkor Wat, the heart of Cambodia, ranks seventh as the place with the most tag posts on TikTok and Instagram.

The report, from Titan Travel, states that Cambodia’s icon is the most tagged place in South-East Asia, with only Singapore’s Bay Garden appearing in the top 10.

New York’s Central Park took top place followed by Eiffel Tower of France and Canada's Niagara Falls.

The London Eye was fourth while India's historis treasure the Taj Mahal was in fifth places and Italy's Colosseum was sixth. After Angkor Wat, the Acropolis of Greece was eighth followed by Argentina's Recoleta while the Bay Garden of Singapore then placed at 10th.

For the record, Angkor Way is a Hindu-Buddhist temple complex in Cambodia.

Located on a site measuring 162.6 hectares (1,626,000 m2; 402 acres) within the ancient Khmer capital city of Angkor, it is considered the largest religious structure in the world by Guinness World Records.

Originally constructed in 1150 CE as a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Vishnu, it was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the century. But the temple showcases both Hinduism and Buddhism lifestyle-history in their full glory.

The Angkor area was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. It is regarded as one of the best examples of Khmer architecture and a symbol of Cambodia, depicted as a part of the Cambodian national flag.

The Angkor Wat is a major tourist attraction for many international tourists and attracts more than 2.5 million visitors every year.
