The meeting of the National Steering Committee in charge of the Laos Asean Chair was attended by deputy prime ministers, ministers, the Mayor of Vientiane, and senior officials from various ministries and other government bodies.

The committee reviewed the progress made in critical tasks undertaken by the 14 sub-committees, with a particular focus on the 44th and 45th Asean Summits and related meetings, which are scheduled to take place in Vientiane from Oct 8-11.

Discussions centred on logistical and organisational matters, including content preparation, official delegations, transportation, accommodation, meeting facilities, and airport readiness to accommodate special aircraft. The committee also considered promotional activities and related tasks.

The Prime Minister commended the significant progress made by the sub-committees to date and provided further directives to ensure continued diligence and responsibility in their work.

Dr Sonexay emphasised the importance of these efforts to ensure the success of Laos’ Asean chairmanship throughout 2024, particularly in relation to the upcoming high-level summits, which will be attended by the leaders of Asean member states and key partners.
