SINGAPORE: A 41-year-old man was charged on Saturday (Aug 17) with mischief by fire for setting a Personal Mobility Aid (PMA) on fire and as a result damaging other properties in the area.

On Aug 15, Chua Teck Sheng set fire on a PMA at the void-deck of Block 482 Admiralty Link, leading to other properties in the vicinity to be damaged.

The police were alerted to the fire, where eight bicycles and three PMAs were burnt.

Thirty-five residents were also evacuated by the police as a precautionary measure.

No injuries were reported.

With follow-up investigations and police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established Chua’s identity and arrested him on Aug 16, the police said in a statement on Aug 17.

A lighter and a box of fire starters which he had used to commit the offence were seized, the police added.

Chua is currently in remand and his case will be heard on Aug 23.

If found guilty, he could be jailed up to seven years and may be fined. - The Straits Times/ANN
