PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): The Anti-Drug Department of the General Commission of the National Police say that they have seized around 400kg of drugs that were smuggled into Cambodia via China, Burma, Thailand and Laos – the so called ‘Golden Triangle’.

Lt. Gen. Kheng Sarath, Director of the Anti-Drug Department of the General Commission of the National Police, said on August 26, 2024 that 400 kilograms were seized by the specialized force of the Anti-Drug Bureau A.4, and a number of criminals sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action.

In this crackdown operation, in cooperation with the Phnom Penh Municipal Police and with the coordination of the prosecutor, the police cracked down on six cross-border drug trafficking and distribution groups, and seized more than 400 kilograms of drugs, including three types of methamphetamine, ketamine and heroin, worth millions of dollars.

Lt. Gen. Kheng Sarath confirmed that the drug crackdown operation was carried out in three different locations in Phnom Penh, one in Toul Kork district and two in Por Senchey district, after a period of three to four months investigation.

The general also confirmed that the drugs were imported from the Golden Triangle, with a group of female ringleaders taking them from Burma and China and storing them in Phnom Penh for export to neighboring countries and some local distribution. - Khmer Times
