BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei’s Ministry of Education (MoE) is actively improving digital literacy by upgrading information technology infrastructure, creating smart classrooms, organising professional development workshops for teachers and publishing blended learning guidelines, said Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Romaizah Mohd Salleh.
She said this at the 13th Asean Education Ministers meeting (13th ASED) in Buriram province, Thailand on Sunday (Aug 25).
The meeting, chaired by Thailand’s Ministry of Education and organised with the Asean Secretariat, was attended by ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials from Asean member states, and Timor-Leste as an observer.
Police General Permpoon Chidchob officiated the opening ceremony, which included performances by students from Buriram and attended by over 10,000 Thai teachers.
Themed ‘Transforming Education in the Digital Era’, Asean education ministers discussed their priorities and strategies for digital transformation in education.
Dr Romaizah highlighted Brunei’s commitment to the transformation through the implementation of the MoE’s Digital Transformation Plan 2023-2027.
The plan, focusing on educational technology, management technology and enabling policies and infrastructure, aligns with Brunei Vision 2035 and the nation’s goal of becoming a smart nation.
Before the ministerial meetings, senior officials met from August 23-24, where Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati Tajuddin also attended.
The senior officials addressed regional education issues, reviewed the progress of the Asean Work Plan on Education 2021-2025, and visited two schools in Buriram province. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
