BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Representatives from the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) are participating in an Australia-Asean Business Forum at the Sydney Convention Centre in Australia.

Representing the Sultanate at the Asean Showcase, BEDB promoted investment and business opportunities to Australian companies and organisations.

The showcase featured collaborative initiatives, including the production of the ‘Airport Economist Brunei Episode’, highlighting Brunei’s success stories in sectors such as food, downstream oil and gas, tourism and services and aimed to attract more Australian investments.

A panel discussion was part of the Brunei Showcase, moderated by BEDB Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Daniel Leong.

Speakers included Royal Brunei Airlines CEO Captain Sabirin Abdul Hamid, Royal Brunei Culinary (RBC) CEO Jeff Hadiman Datuk Paduka Danial, Managing Director of Adinin Group of Companies and Asean Business Advisory Council Member Musa Adinin, and an Australian economist known as The Airport Economist Professor Tim Harcourt.

The panel explored potential collaborative opportunities between Brunei, Australia and the broader Asean region.

"The Sultanate’s participation aligns with the forum’s theme, reflecting its ambitions in the green economy, energy transition, agriculture, food security and digital transformation.

"This involvement also supports the proposed Australia-Brunei Darussalam Plan of Action 2024-2027, which forms part of the Comprehensive Partnership between Australia and Brunei," a statement said.

The forum marks a milestone, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Australia’s relationship with Asean member states and advancing Australia’s Southeast Asian Economic Strategy for 2040.

The forum, which concludes today, is organised by the Australia Asean Business Forum and themed, ‘New Direction with New Opportunities’.

The forum aimed to enhance trade, transactions and relationships between Asean countries and Australia.

The forum featured five interactive panels on key topics: green economy and energy transition, agriculture and food security, medical and health resilience, digital transformation and innovation and start-ups and venture capital investment. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
