HCM CITY: HCM City authorities opened Cay Kho bridge on Friday (Aug 30), which connects the two suburban districts of Nha Be and Binh Chanh.

The Cay Kho Bridge project was approved by the City Department of Transport in December 2015 with a total investment of more than VNĐ500 billion (US$20.1 million) from the city budget.

The construction cost was more than VNĐ306 billion, while the cost of compensation for site clearance and other costs were more than VNĐ114 billion.

The project started in 2016, however, due to problems with site clearance, it has only now been completed.

The reinforced concrete bridge across the Cay Kho Canal in Nha Be District is 485 meters long and 12.5 meters wide with two lanes for cars and two lanes for motorbikes and non-motorised vehicles.

The project also includes 292m long and 12.5m wide approach roads at both ends of the bridge and 540m long residential roads on both sides of the bridge, along with a lighting system on the bridge.

This bridge helps shorten the travel distance of people in the two districts by about 10km.

In addition, Cay Kho Bridge also helps reduce traffic pressure on Huynh Tan Phat Street and Nguyen Huu Tho Street, making it easier to travel between Nguyen Van Linh Street and Hiep Phuoc Port Industrial Park.

The project also strengthens the connection between Nha Be District, District 7 and Binh Chanh District, creating conditions for Phuoc Loc Commune to become a new growth engine of Nha Be District.

In the remaining months of this year, the city will also urgently complete and put into use 28 roads, bridges and tunnels to reduce traffic congestion and clear the city's gateway arteries.

The largest project is the construction of a new road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan, Cong Hoa and Phan Thuc Duyen streets at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Tan Binh District, with a total cost of more than VNĐ4.8 trillion (US$187.7 million).

This project started construction at the end of 2022, aiming to form a new road longer than 4km, connecting to Terminal No. 3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport. - Vietnam News/ANN
