Over 40kg of drugs seized in central Myanmar


YANGON: Myanmar authorities have seized 43.5 kg of drugs in central Myanmar, state-run media Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) reported late Monday (Sept 2).

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a motorcycle in Thazi township of Mandalay region on Aug 29. During the search, they seized 37kg of ketamine and 6.5kg of "Happy Water" drug, and arrested a suspect, the report said.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two more suspects in Thazi township, and of another three suspects in Mahaaungmye township, it added.

The seized drugs, which were being transported from Shan State to Kayin State's Myawaddy township, were valued at approximately 1.89 billion kyats (about US$900,000), the report said. - Xinhua
