HANOI (Xinhua): Industrial parks in Vietnam have retrofitted rooftop solar power systems to increase competitiveness and attract investors, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.

More than 1,200 businesses in Vietnam's garment and textile sector are located in industrial parks. About 30-50 percent of them have installed their own rooftop solar power systems, said the report.

However, they are facing a number of difficulties from weather conditions, and unclear mechanisms for rooftop solar power installation for businesses and industrial parks.

The newspaper cited experts as saying that using green energy from rooftop solar power systems was an indispensable choice for businesses.

Meanwhile, in another development, Vietnam exported 6.16 million tons of rice in the first eight months of this year, up 5.9 percent year on year, Vietnam News has reported, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Rice export brought revenue of nearly US$3.85 billion in the cited period, a year-on-year growth of 21.7 percent, said the report.

Along with an output increase, the Southeast Asian country's average rice export price rose about 14.8 percent during the first eight months, reaching 625 dollars per ton.

Vietnam aims to export over 8 million tons of rice worth 5 billion dollars in 2024, the ministry said. - Xinhua
