Alice Guo's brother Wesley intends to surrender, says his lawyer

MANILA: Wesley Guo, dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo’s sibling, intends to surrender to authorities, according to his legal counsel Stephen David (pic).

Speaking to reporters in an ambush interview in the Senate on Thursday (Sept 5), David said Wesley had expressed his intent to surrender. He, however, refused to disclose additional details, citing client and lawyer privileges.

“He wants to surrender,” said David.

“Of course, there comes a time when we get discouraged. The human being that we are, we reach a point of weakness. Actually, that’s the right thing to do,” David added when he was asked why Wesley changed his mind.

According to David, Wesley no longer sees the essence of hiding. David said he personally told Wesley that there’s no need to hide, asking him what he has done wrong and committed.

Pressed to elaborate if he is coordinating Wesley’s surrender, David said it is being processed.

“I won’t say it but we’re working on it,” he told reporters.

Wesley was earlier identified as Cassandra Ong’s boyfriend. Ong is an incorporator of Whirlwind Corporation, which leased land to Lucky South 99, a Philippine offshore gaming operator that was raided in Pampanga last June.

Citing biometric records, the National Bureau of Investigation previously revealed that Chinese national Guo Xiang Dian and Wesley are the same person. He arrived in the country in 1999.

Wesley has an outstanding arrest order from the upper chamber for refusing to appear, despite due notices, before the committee on women’s hearing on July 10. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
