Defence Ministry scholarships for ‘crème de la crème’ in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has consented to award the 2024 Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (SC RBAF) Scholarship to two outstanding students.

The signing and award ceremony for the 2024 SC RBAF Scholarship was held at the Officers’ Mess, Bolkiah Garrison on Wednesday (Sept 4).

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Major General (Rtd) Datuk Paduka Seri Awang Halbi Mohd Yussof presented the award certificates and souvenirs to the SC RBAF Scholarship recipients.

Signing on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) were Acting Commander of the RBAF Brigadier General (U) Datuk Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif Ibrahim, for the awardee pursuing a military career in the RBAF, and Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Brigadier General (Rtd) Datuk Seri Pahlawan Alirupendi Perudin, for the awardee pursuing a civilian career in the MinDef.

The two scholarship recipients completed their ‘A’ Level studies and studied at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College.

Rizawani Zaini will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Politics at University of Bristol in the United Kingdom; while Muhammad Nu’man Syafiq Suhamri will study at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Australia, for a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

The SC RBAF Scholarship scheme is one of the most prestigious scholarship programmes in the Sultanate.

The aim of the scheme is to nurture outstanding and potential young leaders who will contribute to nation-building, particularly in defence and security. - Borneo Bulletin
