PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Cambodian police in Svay Rieng province have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a Chinese man in Bavet City. The victim, whose identity is still unknown, was found dead on Friday.

Authorities in Svay Rieng confirmed the arrests on Saturday, following an investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death.

The suspects have been identified as Ros Vansy, Mon Oun, Chhoeun Yet, Hean Bralung, and Mong Chiphat, a Myanmar national. All five have been detained and transferred to the provincial specialised office for questioning and further legal action.

According to the initial police report, the Bavet Administrative Police Station received a call from the Good Luck 2 Casino Company Administration at 7:45 am on Friday.

The company reported that one of its employees had fallen ill in an apartment building owned by the company in Chrak Leav Village, Bavet Sangkat. The man was transported by the company’s car to the hospital but died en route. The body was later taken to Po Thmey Pagoda in Chrak Leav Village.

Upon receiving the report, police immediately secured the scene and awaited the arrival of forensic experts. At 10:40 am, the Provincial Police Commissioner assigned Kim Lay, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, to lead the investigation.

The team, which included officers from the Technical and Scientific Police Office, the Bavet City Police Inspectorate, and forensic expert Dr Thy Sopheaktra from Chi Phu Referral Hospital, began inspecting the scene with the coordination of Deputy Prosecutor Lam Peng Sean.

The victim’s body was found in the back seat of a black Lexus RX350 with the license plate Phnom Penh 2BR-3503. He was dressed in a white T-shirt and shorts, with his body positioned awkwardly across the seat. His left leg was folded, and he appeared to have been hastily placed in the vehicle before being transported to the pagoda.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the murder and any potential motives. The five suspects remain in custody as the investigation unfolds. - Khmer Times
