Brunei royal couple off to Singapore for 10th Young Leaders' Programme

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah Hassanal Bolkiah and his consort Pengiran Anak Isteri Sarah Salleh Ab Rahaman on Tuesday (Sept 100 left for Singapore to attend the 10th Young Leaders’ Programme from Sept 10-14.

The visit is upon the invitation of Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

Upon arrival at the VIP Complex, Changi International Airport, the royal couple were welcomed by Singapore’s Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman and spouse Saadiah Shahal; Senior Minister of State at the Prime Minister’s Office as Minister-in-Attendance Desmond Tan, and spouse as Lady-in-Attendance.

Also present to greet the royal couple were High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Singapore Noor Qamar Sulaiman; and High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei Lawrence Bay, and spouse.

During the visit, the prince will attend a tea ceremony hosted by the Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He will also make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

The 10th YLP programme will also include visits to Sentosa Development Cooperation, Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) Summit, Temasek Polytechnic and the Centre of Excellence for Soldier Performance.

The Young Leaders’ Programme is an annual exchange programme between Brunei and Singapore to enhance existing bilateral relations, and for future leaders to exchange views on bilateral cooperation, regional and global development as well as to explore opportunities for generating economic advancement in Brunei.

Hosted alternately between both countries, the programme was previously held in 2023 in Brunei. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
