VIENTIANE: Laos and Vietnam’s top leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close Party and state relations.
During a high-level Party meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday (Sept 11), Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Thongloun Sisoulith, and Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, agreed to elevate the traditional Party friendship and relations between the two countries to new heights.
At the meeting, Thongloun who also serves as President of Laos, emphasised that Laos will continue to strengthen the special relationship with Vietnam for the benefit of both countries, as well as for international peace and stability.
In response, To Lam, who also serves as President of Vietnam, reaffirmed that the relationship with Laos remains a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress made in deepening cooperation and relation between Laos and Vietnam, noting the significant contributions of this partnership to the economic and social development of both countries.
They also emphasized the growing importance of Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia cooperation, calling for further collaboration among the three nations.
During the meeting, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reviewed progress in various areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, culture, education, and science and technology.
Both heads of government agreed to implement specific measures to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
They also stressed the need for new breakthroughs in strengthening economic and trade relations alongside political cooperation.
The Lao and Vietnamese delegations agreed to implement the directives of their leaders and continue strengthening political, security, and defense cooperation, while sharing information and supporting each other on the international stage.
The delegations also reaffirmed their commitment to resolving outstanding issues in cooperation, enhancing the effectiveness of investment partnerships, and intensifying efforts to maintain security and order along their shared borders.
On the same day, President Thongloun and his delegation visited the Vietnamese National Assembly, where they were greeted by National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man.
President Thongloun also laid a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum before meeting with former Vietnamese volunteers who fought against foreign invasion. - Vientiane Times/ANN
