Myanmar seizes over one ton of ice in eastern state of Shan

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar authorities have seized over one ton of ICE (methamphetamine) in eastern Myanmar's Shan state, the state-run daily The Mirror reported this week, citing the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Kengtung township of eastern Shan state on Sept. 7 and seized the narcotics, the report said.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the case, and the estimated value of the seized drugs is over 8.37 billion kyats (about 3.98 million U.S. dollars), it added.

Investigation showed that the drugs were being transported from Kengtung township to Monghpyak township of Shan state, the report said.

The suspect has been charged under the country's laws, and further investigations are ongoing, it added. - Xinhua
