MANILA: Six people reportedly died due to the combined effects of Tropical Storm Ferdie (international name: Bebinca) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday (Sept 15) said these deaths are still up for validation.

The council likewise disclosed that 22 people were injured, while two are missing.

The recent weather disturbance also affected 203,197 individuals or 47,166 families in 292 barangays nationwide, based on the NDRRMC’s 8am report.

Among the affected persons, 36,626 were displaced, with 13,825 fleeing to evacuation centers (ECs), while 22,801 took shelter elsewhere.

Ferdie has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 2am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, habagat continues to affect the western parts of the country, as a new low-pressure area (LPA) formed east of Luzon.

The LPA was last spotted some 440 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

Additionally, the weather agency monitored cloud clusters outside PAR, which may likely have a circulation within 24 to 48 hours.

Due to the effects of the new LPA, a gale warning was hoisted in the following areas that may experience strong waves as high as 3.7 to 4.5 meters:

Occidental Mindoro

Palawan

Romblon

Western Visayas

Negros Island Region

Central Visayas
