VIENTIANE: The Asia-Potash has donated 1.5 billion kip to the Lao government to help address the impacts of floods caused by Typhoon Yagi.

Many provinces in Laos have experienced heavy rains in the past few days, given the typhoon and low air pressure.

The donation took place on Friday (Sept 20) at the Prime Minister’s Office and was received by representatives of the Lao government, including the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Baykham Khattiya, the vice president of the central disaster management committee.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Chansamone Chanyalath, the president of the central disaster management committee, was also present to receive the donation.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked Asia-Potash for the donation, saying he valued the contributions of Asia-Potash towards the socio-economic development and livelihoods of the Lao people.

This donation from Asia-Potash is said to show not only strong support for the flood relief efforts but also a sincere act of generosity to the Lao government and people, showing the responsibility and actions of Chinese enterprises.

Deputy General Manager of Asia-Potash, Zheng Youye, said the severe flooding in the north has touched the heart of his company.

With the government proactively organising emergency aid and relief in the face of a severe natural disaster, the management team of Asia-Potash decided to accelerate their research efforts on how to contribute, rushing to create a donation plan.

This donation is not only an expression of the company's deep friendship with the people of Laos, but it is also a return to society, he added.

The company is ready to cooperate with the Lao government and people on flood prevention and disaster relief, helping the people affected by the disaster and restoring their livelihoods, he said.

Asia-Potash is an international enterprise focused on mining potash and producing and selling potash fertiliser.

It is also the first company in Laos to achieve the industrial production of potash fertiliser, which Asia-Potash has implemented in Khammuan province through the continuous expansion of production capacity while actively contributing to increasing government revenue, encouraging employment, and promoting sustainable local economic development.

As the potash salt industry grows, Asia-Potash also plans to work together with the Lao government to create the Asia-Potash smart industrial estate, establishing a modern industrial group with potash development as the main focus. - Vientiane Times/ANN
