SINGAPORE: A 36-year-old man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a woman between January and March at a condominium in the Katong area.

Philipp Bonkatz, a German national, was handed four charges in a district court on Sept 9.

According to court documents, the alleged offences took place in the same condo unit.

The documents do not state the relationship between the pair.

Details about the victim have been withheld to protect her identity.

Bonkatz faces two charges of voluntarily causing hurt, which accuse him of kicking, punching and pushing the woman.

On one occasion, he allegedly pulled her hair and picked her up by her crotch and jaw before throwing her onto the ground.

Another charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt alleges that he bit the victim’s finger, fracturing it.

Bonkatz, who is out on S$15,000 bail, also allegedly wrongfully confined the victim by locking her out on the condo’s balcony.

His lawyer, Mohamed Baiross from IRB Law, said his client intends to contest the charges.

The offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ jail with a fine or caning.

For voluntarily causing hurt, an offender can be jailed for up to three years and fined up to $5,000 for each offence.

For wrongful confinement, an offender can be jailed for up to three years and fined. - The Straits Times/ANN
