JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) searched the residence of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar in South Jakarta on Sept 6.

Cash and electronic evidence were seized during the search. KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu said the confiscated money was worth Rp 250 million (US$16,447.6) in foreign currencies and rupiah.

"Of course, it is still being analysed because apart from the cash we obtained, there is also electronic evidence, which we will take a long time to analyse, Agus said on Thursday, as quoted by detik.com.

“Because we have to sort out which ones are related to the case that we are handling."

The search was part of an investigation into a corruption case involving the management of grant funds for community groups from East Java’s provincial budget in 2019-2022.

The management of the funds is considered problematic not only because of the existence of fictitious community groups but also because the funds were being managed by members of political parties at the village and subdistrict levels.

According to information gathered by Tempo, these managers were affiliated with three to four different political parties.

Abdul Halim served as the East Java Provincial Legislative Council speaker in 2014-2019, representing the National Awakening Party (PKB).

He is also the older brother of PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar. The KPK has named 21 suspects in the case, including four recipients and 17 bribers.

Three recipients were state officials, while one was a staff member. Of the 17 alleged bribers, 15 were private parties and two are also state officials.

"The names of the suspects and the unlawful acts committed by the suspects will be revealed to the media when the investigation is completed," KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto said on Sept 10. - The Jakarta Post/ANN
