Injured Chinese crew member of cargo vessel rescued off Pangasinan

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) had evacuated an injured Chinese crew member from a cargo vessel in the waters off Bolinao town in Pangasinan.

A PCG report said the 28-year-old crew member suffered a facial injury while grinding metal onboard the MV Kang Qi Fu Hua.

A part of the grinding dish unexpectedly broke and struck him, causing a 2-3cm laceration on his lower left jawline.

The cargo vessel had departed from Jiuzhou Port in Zhuhai, China, and was en route to Davao Port when the incident occurred.

In a phone interview on Monday, Commander Euphraim Jayson Diciano, chief of the PCG station in Zambales, said the BRP Cabra, a patrol vessel assigned to the West Philippine Sea, was 175 nautical miles (324km) off Pangasinan at the time of the incident.

The vessel immediately proceeded to a location 135 nautical miles (250km) off a beach resort in Bolinao to conduct the medical evacuation.

The injured crew member was transported to the Charlie Anchorage Area in Subic Bay Freeport.

From there, a yacht rented by the ship’s local agent transported him to a hospital in Olongapo City for further treatment. - Philippine Daily inquirer/ANN
