VIENTIANE: Leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and South Korea gathered in the Lao capital Vientiane to discuss the impact of climate change on social and economic conditions while considering strategic plans and solutions to climate change.
The leaders gathered for a forum titled "Capacity Building Conference on Regional Collaboration for Climate Resilience: Strategies, Impacts, and Sectoral Approaches", Lao national TV reported on Monday (Sept 30).
The meeting aimed to encourage shared responsibility among Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, and to gather expert comments and share South Korean experiences.
Climate change, particularly rising temperatures, has altered rainfall patterns, seasons, and increased weather variability, affecting economies, infrastructure, health, and lifestyles globally.
Topics discussed during the conference included climate change trends and their socio-economic impacts, coping strategies at national levels, and case studies on sectoral solutions and international cooperation.
Participants engaged directly with these issues and discussed possible solutions such as policy setting, strategic planning, action plans, and coordination mechanisms tailored to each country's particular conditions.
The outcomes of the conference will form the basis of a strategic plan aimed at mitigating climate change impacts and ensuring societal sustainability and resilience in the future. - Xinhua
