Over 5,000 arrested for drug-related crimes in eight months in Myanmar


YANGON: Myanmar authorities have arrested a total of 5,286 suspects for drug offences between Jan 1 and Aug 31 this year, the state-run media The Mirror reported on Wednesday (Oct 2).

The suspects were apprehended in 3,832 cases during this period, the report said.

The narcotics and related items seized in the cases were valued at approximately 750 billion kyats (about US$357 million), it said.

The country is collaborating with international organisations to effectively combat drug trafficking, the report added. - Xinhua
