BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Seventeen companies, including government-linked companies (GLCs), statutory body and travel agents from the sultanate participated in the 21st China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) held at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre (NICEC) in Nanning, China, from Sept 24 to 28.

The expo was officiated by Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang.

The Bruneian delegation was headed by Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) Dr May Fa’ezah Ahmad Ariffin.

During the expo, Dr May Fa’ezah met with vice chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Guangxi Committee Huang Junhua.

She highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1991, investment and bilateral trade between the two countries have increased, contributing to the development and transformation of Brunei Darussalam’s economy.

She added that cooperation in the Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor (BGEC) over the years has made progress through various projects, including Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC) and its subsidiary, Muara International Fish Landing (MIFL).

Under this year’s theme ‘Upholding Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit and Inclusiveness for Common Development, Creating a Diamond Crown New Future – Promoting Development of a China-Asean Free Trade Area 3.0 and High-Quality Growth of This Region’, Asean and China continue to build strategic partnership and strengthen understanding and trust through mutual respect among business and industry leaders.

The sultanate also organised the Brunei National Promotion Conference and business matching sessions where Brunei Economic Development Board’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Daniel Leong delivered a presentation that attracted around 100 potential investors. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
