BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Traditional games like congkak, pasang, kites and gasing were fun activities that brought the community together during childhood, said Assistant Supervisor of Youth Centre and Head of Youth and Sports Department Division in Temburong District Mohd Noramizul Serbini during the launch of Kelab Sukan Sumpit Lun Tau at Pekan Bangar Community Hall in the Temburong District on Saturday (Oct 5).

He also said it has become a huge challenge to maintain, preserve and build interest in the nation’s heritage, such as the traditional sport of blowpipe.

He hopes the blowpipe can regain its popularity and attract interest beyond the local communities.

Meanwhile, Kelab Sukan Sumpit Lun Tau chairman Chin Haji in his welcoming remarks shared that the club was established on September 13, 2023, after receiving approval from the Registrar of Societies and the Royal Brunei Police Force.

The club plans to organise workshops across the four districts and host the One Borneo Blowpipe competition with participants from Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Yesterday’s event saw a blowpipe demonstrations and an exhibition on blowpipe equipment.

Prizes were presented to the winner of a recent blowpipe competition, including Alijanda in the men’s 60-feet category, Ernawaty in the women’s 40-feet category, and Team AC in the team event.

Renee Suzann Udan also received an award for designing the blowpipe club’s logo. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
