JAKARTA (Vietnam News/ANN): The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Indonesia said it is committed to continuing support for Indonesia in promoting global climate action to reduce emissions.
According to Dr. Joko Tri Haryanto, President Director of the Indonesian Environment Fund, said Indonesia has also strengthened its national REDD+ architecture, including aligning the REDD+ National Strategy (STRANAS) with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets, enhancing the Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL), and integrating safeguard frameworks to ensure equitable benefit sharing from REDD+ initiatives.
Previously, Indonesia's results-based payments (RBP) REDD+ programme received a grant of US$103.78 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The South-East Asian nation sets to reduce emissions by 60% by 2030.
The largest archipelagic country in the world is now also committed to reduce its greenhouse (GHG) gas emissions target unconditionally to 29% and conditionally (with international support) to 41% compared to business-as-usual (BAU) scenarios of 834 Mt CO2e and 1,185 Mt CO2e, respectively, by 2030. - Vietnam News/ANN
