‘Doraemon’ voice actress Nobuyo Oyama dies at 90; also voiced Katsuo in anime ‘Sazae-san’

TOKYO: Voice actress Nobuyo Oyama, known for providing the voice of the popular anime character Doraemon, died of old age on Sept 29, it was learned Friday (Oct 11). She was 90.

Funeral services were held by her relatives and those close to her.

Born in Tokyo, Oyama became an actress after training at the Haiyuza company.

In addition to appearing in TV dramas, she also made use of her distinctive voice as a voice actress in TV anime shows.

In the popular TV anime “Sazae-san,” Oyama was the first voice actress to play Katsuo, the younger brother of the protagonist, Sazae.

Oyama is best known for her work on “Doraemon,” which has been broadcast on the TV Asahi network since 1979.

Oyama was the voice of the character for 26 years until 2005. - The Japan News/ANN
