Myanmar hosts 18th Asean Navy Chiefs' Meeting

YANGON: Myanmar hosted the 18th Asean Navy Chiefs' Meeting in Naypyidaw on Thursday (Oct 10), the state-run daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Friday (Oct 11).

The event was attended by high-ranking naval officials from Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

During the event, State Administration Council Member Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, and Air) Maung Maung Aye highlighted that Myanmar is actively working with both Asean member countries and neighboring countries in a friendly manner, the report said.

The water areas of Asean support the socioeconomic development of its people while prioritizing regional peace, security, stability and prosperity, it said.

These water areas should be protected from external interference. It is crucial for all nations to work together to ensure the safety and stability of regional waterways, it added.
