SINGAPORE (Bernama): Singaporeans who are interested in some late-night shopping this Deepavali season may want to travel across the Causeway to Johor Bahru for the Malaysia Midnight Sale from Oct 30 to Nov 2.
Tourism Malaysia Singapore deputy director Mohana Murni Shanmugam said the event offers shoppers extended hours until midnight, along with entertainment and exclusive deals at different malls in Johor’s capital city.
"The first edition of the Midnight Sale will take place at Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru from Oct 30 to 31, followed by a second exciting installment at Mercato Garden Square @ Setia Eco Gardens from Nov 1 to 2,” she told Bernama on Friday.
Mohana said the agency, in partnership with Singapore’s Express & Excursion Bus Association (EEBA), will provide complimentary shuttle bus services on a first-come, first-served basis for those booking their trip through WTS Travel during the ongoing 36th Travel Malaysia Fair 2024.
Alternatively, reservations can also be made at WTS Travel outlets or via their hotline and website.
Tourism Malaysia director general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy said the agency is thrilled to collaborate with EEBA to bring this exciting shopping experience to Singapore residents, noting that the event not only promotes local businesses but also enhances Malaysia’s reputation as a shopping destination.
"We invite everyone to bring their families and friends as special prizes and surprises await those who join the fun,” he said.
Visitors to the 36th Travel Malaysia Fair 2024 can also discover a diverse range of tourism products and services at Tourism Malaysia booth, including packages from Junglewalla Desaru, Hospitality 360, Juara Scuba Academy, and KPJ Healthcare Bhd.
Organised by EEBA, the travel fair runs from Oct 11 to 13 at Hall D, Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore, with the participation of over 20 travel and tour companies.
Meanwhile, in a separate event at the travel fair, Malaysia’s PSHolidays.com Sdn Bhd and Singapore’s EU Holidays Pte Limited signed a partnership to collaborate on organising and promoting sports events, as well as enhancing the tourism experience through joint sports tourism packages and services.
Johor Economic, Tourism, and Cultural Office Singapore (JETCO) chief executive officer Saifuddin Abdul Rahim, who witnessed the signing, mentioned that one of the initiatives include creating tour packages to watch Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football matches.
"One of the plans is to create a two-day, one-night tour package to watch JDT’s AFC Champions League Elite match; for example, the next match is JDT vs. Ulsan HD FC from South Korea on Nov 5.
"So, besides Singaporeans who enjoy football, we also want to tap into the South Korean expats in Singapore,” he said.
EU Holidays business development manager Richard Lim said the packages will not only entice football fans but also be attractive to others.
"It’s not just solely to watch the football match. We will also include tours to various areas in Johor. JDT also offers stadium tours and walkabouts. This is something very new and interesting, even for non-sports fans,” he said. - Bernama
