SINGAPORE: President Tharman Shanmugaratnam conferred the Distinguished Service Order on Commissioner of Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force Mohammad Irwan Hambali at the Istana on Tuesday (Oct 15).

The Order was instituted in 1968 and may be awarded to anyone who has performed within Singapore any act or series of acts constituting distinguished conduct.

In special circumstances, it may be given to any person who has performed outside Singapore any act or series of acts constituting distinguished conduct.

In a release, the Singapore Police Force said the Commissioner was appointed to his current position in 2019, and strengthened the bilateral relationship between the Royal Brunei Police Force and its Singapore counterpart through close cooperation in capacity and capability building.

He strongly supported mutual training exchanges between the two police forces, which helped to hone the specialised skill sets of officers, it added.

During his stay in Singapore, Mohammad Irwan made courtesy calls on Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck.

Hoong said the close cooperation between the two police forces enhances the safety and security of both nations.

He said: “The Singapore Police Force and Royal Brunei Police Force enjoy a longstanding partnership built on mutual trust and unwavering commitment to fighting crime. We will continue to strengthen this partnership and leverage our combined expertise to better safeguard our nations.” - The Straits Times/ANN
