SINGAPORE: Singapore scrambled two of its F-15SGs fighter jets after Air India Express received an email stating that there was a bomb on board flight AXB684 bound for Singapore.

According to Bernama, Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen said the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) fighter jets escorted the plane away from populated areas and it landed safely at Singapore Changi Airport at 10.04 pm on Tuesday.

"Our Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were also activated. Once on the ground, the plane was handed to the airport police," he posted on X.

Dr Ng said investigations are ongoing.

In Canada, AFP reported that an Air India plane bound for Chicago has to make an abrupt landing in the Arctic city of Iqaluit after a false bomb threat.

The emergency stop on early Tuesday (Oct 15) came less than a day after Canada and India expelled senior diplomats in a widening feud between the two countries. - Agencies
