BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Marine Police under the Operations Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband from a neighbouring country on Thursday (Oct 17).

According to the RBPF, the incident took place around 11.15pm when Marine Police discovered two suspicious boats speeding from the border of a neighbouring country into Brunei.

Police personnel gave chase and stopped one boat and the driver. The suspect, who is a local man, attempted to escape by jumping into the water. Police personnel however managed to detain the suspect.

Another boat got away by heading to the border of a neighbouring country.

During the search, officials found 908 cartons of cigarettes, 60 bottles of alcohol, two units of vape and cash amounting to BND110.
