COLOMBO (Xinhua): Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Friday sought Myanmar's assistance in securing the release of Sri Lankans detained by cybercrime scammers and criminal gangs in Myanmar, according to a statement from the President's Media Division (PMD).
The president made this appeal during a meeting with Myanmar's Ambassador to Sri Lanka Malar Than Htaik at the Presidential Secretariat, the PMD stated.
A detailed discussion took place between Dissanayake and the ambassador, focusing on the release of Sri Lankans forcibly held in cybercrime camps in Myanmar, the PMD said, adding that currently, several dozen Sri Lankans are reportedly being held in the camps run by criminal gangs in Myanmar.
Dissanayake also briefed the Myanmar ambassador on Sri Lanka's security situation, assuring that steps to ensure the safety of both tourists and residents have been strengthened. - Xinhua
