Bruneian permanent resident fined BND153,800 for smuggled cigarettes

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 36-year-old Brunei permanent resident, Mohammad Aiman Putera Abdullah Laju @ Kersmandey, has been fined BND153,800 for possessing smuggled cigarettes.

The defendant would have to serve 23 months in jail in default of payment of the fine.

Magistrate Muhd Muzakkir Zakaria heard feom the Customs prosecutor that the arrest was made on March 26, 2023, around 6.40am at the Kuala Lurah Control Post, where Customs Inspection Officers seized 209 cartons of various types of cigarettes found in the defendant’s possession.
