Brunei armed forces all-set for peacekeeping mission

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei Darussalam flag handover ceremony for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Contingent, who will be serving in the Malaysian Battalion 850-12 (MALBATT 850-12) as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission, was held at the Air Movement Centre, Rimba Air Force Base on Friday (Nov 1).

Present at the ceremony were Commander of the RBAF Major General Datuk Paduka Seri Muhammad Haszaimi Bol Hassan; High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Retired) Datuk Seri Pahlawan Alirupendi Perudin.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, led by Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Mujib Japar, Acting Director of the RBAF Religious Directorate (JAMA’AT).

The ceremony then proceeded with the handing over of the national flag by the Commander of the RBAF to Major Pengiran Muhd Syahir Fadillah Pengiran Salleh, Head of Brunei Darussalam’s Contingent for MALBATT 850-12, followed by the presentation of badges to the Officers and members of the contingent.

The ceremony concluded with a group photo session. The contingent will depart to Malaysia upon the conclusion of the ceremony, using the RBAirF Transport Aircraft C295MW before departing to Lebanon.

The RBAF has been involved in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission since 2008, which reflects Brunei Darussalam’s commitment in upholding the United Nations’ three main pillars: Peace and Security, Human Rights, and Development.
