AIZAT AMDAN, a celebrated name in the Malaysian music industry, has recently taken the plunge into the world of Muay Thai, marking his debut in the sport. But in addition to his athletic pursuits, Aizat has returned with a new single titled ‘Tegap Berdiri’.
The new single expected to be a top hit in the country was co-written with Mel Ramlan and Izzy Musa, under the label Kasi Gegar Entertainment (KGE).
“My passion for Muay Thai ignited back in 2015, when I was captivated by the legendary fighters in the ring.
"I started training, and one day my coach confidently told me that I was ready to fight. It never crossed my mind to fight, until my unexpectedly debut match on October 12,” Aizat shared about his first amateur Muay Thai fight.
When questioned about his hiatus from music releases, Aizat offered insight into his creative process.
“I prefer to take my time rather than flooding the market with new songs. It’s essential for me to thoughtfully plan my next steps as an artist. For instance, I limit myself to producing only five songs a year," said the 35-year-old Aizat.
‘Tegap Berdiri’ reflects on Aizat's passion for Muay Thai.
He recounted adding that “The inspiration for the song emerged spontaneously during a recording session for ‘Dari Studio Podcast’ with Mel and my brother, Amar. We were discussing current events and the golden era of Malaysian football around 1998, and it struck me, ‘even if you lose, you still stand tall’, and that became a key lyric."
The song carries a powerful message about resilience.
“Life is a journey filled with victories and losses, and it’s natural to experience highs and lows. What truly matters is to keep moving forward with a positive mindset," said Aizat.
The creation of this single was a labour of love, taking nearly a year to be perfected, and Aizat’s recent immersion in Muay Thai played a crucial role in shaping the song, making it a fitting tribute to his journey.
“This time around, I’m exploring the pop genre infused with elements of ‘City Pop,’ which gained popularity in the 80s in Japan and also Malaysia. I’ve crafted my own version, which I’ve termed ‘KL-City Pop’," he added.
Accompanying the single is a creatively produced music video that tells a story. Aizat described, “The music video chronicles my journey into Muay Thai, from ordinary training sessions to my first fight. While it may look effortless, the reality of sports is filled with hard work and determination, testing both physical and mental limits.
Whether known as Aizat AF, Ai.Z, or Aizat Amdan, he emphasises that each persona is an expression of his artistry.
“I strive to be my true self, the most authentic version of me. Transformation is crucial as it signifies growth. I enjoy revealing different facets of Aizat Amdan because everything I do is in the name of art.
Aizat Amdan also expressed his hopes for his listeners: “I just want whoever listens to this song enjoys it. It’s perfect for your workout routines, whether at home or in the gym, or whenever you’re feeling down. Remember to challenge yourself everyday with new experiences, even if you stumble, rise again and stand tall.
For the record, Aizat is well known for inducing creative sounds and lyrical prose within his songs. He describes his music as a mixture of pop rock and alternative music influenced by Britpop.
In 2007, Aizat released two of his singles entitled "Hanya Kau Yang Mampu" and "Sahabat". "Hanya Kau Yang Mampu" was a major hit in Malaysia earning it the title of the Most Downloaded song in 2009 at Anugerah Planet Muzik. Since then Aizat has released two albums Percubaan Pertama and Urusan Aizat Amdan.
As for the new single - ‘Tegap Berdiri’ - is now available for download on iTunes and can be set as a ringtone through all local telecommunication providers. You can also enjoy it on various streaming platforms such as Joox, KKBox, Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
