HANOI: A man in Vietnam who grew suspicious because his beautiful daughter resembled neither him nor his wife – prompting him to conduct a DNA test – which confirmed he was not her biological father.

While his wife denied the infidelity and even left home, the truth finally surfaced after their daughter transferred schools and met another girl born on the same date as her.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, had moved to Ho Chi Minh City in the south of the country for work, accompanied by his wife, surnamed Hong, and their daughter, identified as Lan, who was only three years old at the time.

However, as Lan grew into a teenager and became increasingly beautiful, he noticed she bore no resemblance to either him or his wife.

Suspicion prompted him to conduct a DNA test, which confirmed that Lan was not his biological daughter.

The revelation led him to grow distant and cold towards his wife and daughter, and he often came home drunk.

One night, after getting drunk, he confronted his wife with the DNA test results and accused her of infidelity.

However, Hong denied the allegations and eventually moved to the northern capital city Hanoi with her daughter.

The move forced Lan to transfer schools, a move which unexpectedly revealed the truth.

At the new school, Lan quickly became friends with a female classmate who, remarkably, was born on the same day and at the same hospital as she was.

Their connection even led to a joint birthday party organised by the friend’s mother.

However, at the party, the friend’s mother was so shocked to see Lan because the girl bore a striking resemblance to her younger self.

Prompted by the discovery and at the request of the girl’s family, Hong agreed to a DNA test, which confirmed that the two girls had been switched at birth, likely due to a mix-up by the hospital staff.

Now, the two families spend time together regularly and have reached a consensus to reveal the truth to the girls when the time is right.

It was undisclosed whether they will take legal action against the hospital.

The revelation, reported by the Vietnamese media outlet Docnhanh, has sparked a heated online discussion.

One online observer said: “The story is really thrilling, like the plot twists in the Korean TV drama Autumn in My Heart.”

Another person added: “It tells us that if it is not necessary, do not randomly test DNA, as it can just cause yourself unnecessary trouble.”

“The medical staff made a ridiculous mistake. Fortunately, the truth finally came out. Otherwise, even jumping into the Yellow River could not clear the wife’s name,” a third said. - South China Morning Post
