Destination Malaysia: Tamil music genius GV Prakash to rock Bukit Jalil on Dec 7 in his very first overseas concert

JUST like his uncle AR Rahman, GV Prakash is superb musical genius in his own right. And just like AR Rahman, his nephew GV Prakash is also a popular music composer and actor has a big following all over Asia too.

To top that, the 37-year-old is riding high as a music composer this year and he is set to rock the National Hockey Stadium on Dec 7 during the "GV Prakash - Live in Malaysia: A Celebration of Life' concert. Incidentally it his first ever live concert outside of India.

The concert was announced recently by promoters DMY Creations who were also Malaysian distributors of the super blockbuster Pan-Indian movie ''Amaran'' led by Sivakartikeyan and Sai Pallavi.

DMY Creations general manager Mohd Maideen in a special interview with The Star on Wednesday (Nov 20) said that they are absolutely delighted that the famous composer has decided join hands with them to have his first live concert outside his home country. And the best part is that he has chosen Malaysia.

"We incredibly happy that GV Prakash will be here soon and joining hands with us for this mega concert," said Mohd Maideen.

There is no doubt the musician knows how to rock the stage. Last year, in his first live concert in Coimbatore in South India, the event organisers sold more than 75,000 tickets and it was a sold-out super success. And many writers said it was among the best concert seen in this part of the country.

"This time around, we expect 15,000 (almost full capacity at the venue) for the KL concert," added Mohd Maideen.

"This will be a special concert and our local and international hip hop star Yogi B will also be sharing the stage with GV Prakash. on Top of that, audiences will get a good feel of the concert too.

"I can promise that GV Prakash will also interact with the all the fans in the stadium. He has actually promised that he will come down from the stage to interact with the fans. That is a special treat for all the fans will come down to watch the concert with us," said Mohd Maideen.

"All in all, I can promise that this will be a one-of-a-kind concert that will showcase the best of GV Prakash and other local talents."

Besides GV Prakash, he has also stated that his ex-wife Saindhavi and top singers from Tamil Nadu such as Haricharan, and Tippu will also be sharing the stage.

For the record, Prakash is the only son of G. Venkatesh and playback singer A. R. Reihana, who is the elder sister of music director A. R. Rahman.

He also has a younger sister named Bhavani Sre, who is an actress and appeared in films/series such as Viduthalai: Part 1, Ka Pae Ranasingam and Paava Kadhaigal.

When he was with Amaran team in KL recently, GV Prakash said: “It’s my first concert abroad. I’m very excited it’s happening in Kuala Lumpur. I just hope it will be as magical as the one in Coimbatore last year.

"I can promise all my fans that I will give them a concert experience they will not forget for a long time."

Looking back, GV Prakash actually made headlines in 2006 when he burst into the scene with the movie ''Veyil' and then he further gained fame in the 2010s with so many hit films.

He also made his debut in acting on 2015 through ''Darling'' and has won one National Award, three Filmfare Awards and three SIIMA Awards in his film career.

His sings in the movie 'Anniyan' and 'Unnale Unnale' and those songs are still heard until today.

But superstardom came in through his music in the film ''Madrasapattinam'' (2010), directed by A. L. Vijay, especially his song "Pookal Pookum Tharunam" to which many had said it was the love song of that decade. And it can still be heard in all Tamil radio stations from India to US to London to Malaysia, Singapore and Australia and back.

Since then, GV Prakash music has been heard in almost 100 Tamil and other South Indian language movies.

But this Deepavali, the composer is riding high on success again, with his music for ''Amaran'' and ''Lucky Baskhar'' lighting up both Tamil and Telugu box offices. And he is now the talk of the town in South India.

Celebrated for his compositions in these festival releases, Prakash’s work has drawn an enthusiastic response from audiences across two states, marking a significant comeback in his music career.

Prakash expressed his joy over the audience’s appreciation for his music in Amaran and Lucky Baskhar. “#Amaran #LuckyBaskhar ...two states, two blockbusters. #HappyDiwali to all of you ... thanks for the lovely response to my music. #tamil #telugu @dulQuer @Siva_Kartikeyan,” he tweeted.

Fans were also thrilled for GV Prakash’s musical comeback. In recent years, his focus had shifted towards his acting career, limiting his work as a composer. But now, with both Amaran and Lucky Baskhar, he’s reaffirmed his impact in the music scene.

"What a diwali it has turned out for me ... the best one ... response for both #Amaran and #Luckybaskhar ... in both states .... Thank u all it’s overwhelming," GV Prakash said earlier.

With so much going for GV Prakash in the music scene, it is no wonder any fans cannot wait for the event to begin.

"Tickets sales has been excellent and already around 11,000 tickets has been sold. We hope to gain the full house seating in our last stage push. I hope fans will joins us this musical extravaganza," said Mohd Maideen. "We can assure all it will be a night to remember in Bukit Jalil."

So there you can go Indian movie and music fans. The singer and the promoters have promised an unforgettable night celebrating Tamil music. Be sure to book your spot at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil come Dec 7.
